Pop orders scripted comedy starring Joey McIntyre

Pop has given an eight-episode series order to “The Joey Mac Project,” a scripted show starring Joey McIntyre of New Kids on the Block.

The half-hour comedy stars McIntyre as a fictionalized version of himself — a former boy-band singer trying to transition to a career in acting. McIntyre serves as executive producer along with Donnie Wahlberg, Jenny McCarthy, Tim Gibbons (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Paul Greenberg (“Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris”) and Jenny Daly (“Storage Hunters,” “Hollywood and Football”).

“I lucked out. What are the chances of me being cast as a character named Joey McIntyre?” said McIntyre. “But in all seriousness, if you love to laugh, we have a comedy gold team behind this project who have the secret sauce for funny TV…yes, I just said that.”

Produced by T Group Productions, “The Joey Mac Project” joins a slate of original scripted series on Pop that includes returning comedy “Schitt’s Creek,” upcoming drama “Wolf Creek” and upcoming comedy “Nightcap.”

“I’ve worked with Joey since we were kids,” said Wahlberg, “but seeing all of his many talents come together in this show – I’ve never been more excited.”
